2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.
Faith often requires us to go against what our eyes are telling us. Think, Daniel in the Lions Den, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and the flaming furnace or Israel crossing the Red Sea. We often seek God’s will for us… with questions like, “Where do I go from here” or “What now, God?”
We want to be able to see what we are walking into, and yet God says we are to walk by faith and not by sight. Often, the evidence that we are walking by faith is our senses screaming at us to stop. “I think God wants me to go here and do this or that… Because it is appealing to my eyes and makes sense to me or because it looks like the missing piece of the puzzle is over there.” Well, does it require faith OR is it appealing to the senses?
Put everything before God in prayer before making decisions and wait on Him for guidance. Both the waiting on His answer and His answer will always require faith and will also glorify God. Don’t give up. Our eyes will deceive us into choosing what looks easiest or best instead of what God wants for us. This is why we must place all of our decisions in God’s hands with the commitment to then do what He leads us to do rather than go where we want to go.
The object of faith should always be God and never human resources. Faith in God is demonstrated when we place our lives in His hands and are willing to trust in Him to bring about those good things of Himself which may be for a time unseen, yet no less promised. Promises such as:
- To supply every need
- That his grace is sufficient
- That we will not be overtaken with temptation
- That we have victory over death
- That all things work together for good for those who love God
- That He will not forget you
- That no weapon formed against you will prosper
- That His plans for you are good
- That He is jealous for you
- That He loves you
- That He will defend you
The list really could go on and on… The Bible is full of God’s promises and the great thing is that our God is unfailing. Our unfailing God only makes unfailing promises. You can depend on that.
