Genesis 47:25 So they said, “You have saved our lives; let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants.”
You know, instead of freaking out about circumstances, we can be at peace knowing that God’s got it covered.
Matthew 10:29–31 Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Sparrows were a common species of bird in Israel. They would often build nests in the eaves of houses where the nests would be destroyed by the home owner and the birds driven away as pests. The birds were not driven away, however, when they built their nests in the Temple.
Psalm 84:3 Even the sparrow has found a home, And the swallow a nest for herself, Where she may lay her young Even Your altars, O Lord of hosts, My King and my God.
God cares so much for His creation that He cares for them in His house and knows when even one of these little one’s perishes. That being the case, what are you worried about?
Romans 8:30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.
If God promises that all things work together for good to those who love Him (see Romans 8-28-29) … then we can spend less time worried about ourselves and more time concerned with others.
Scripture often uses this phrase, “it came to pass.” I love that phrase because every time I see it, I’m reminded that things come to pass and not to stay. Though we don’t see ”it came to pass” written in words here in Genesis 47, we do see it played out in the scheme of things as God uses a famine to bring safety and prosperity to Israel. The despair of today will be claimed by the joy of tomorrow. If you are in the midst of trouble, rejoice and praise the Lord … set your eyes on Jesus.
Psalm 126:5 Those who sow in tears Shall reap in joy.
Don’t dwell in the difficulties, and don’t despair in the disappointments. Joy is right before you, just look up. God has it all under control and His plans for you are very very good.
