Exodus 2:16-17 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. And they came and drew water, and they filled the troughs to water their father’s flock. Then the shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.
Moses had a heart for the oppressed … and that is something that doesn’t come naturally. It is common for people to look up to and admire those who are on top, those who “have made it” and to look down upon those who have not. Our media feeds on this tendency; there are plenty of magazines, television shows, websites to prove it. I believe a heart for those who are the least, the last, the downtrodden, and the underdog is something God gives to us.
The heart of God is for the underdog. Time and again in scripture, wherever you find someone who is an underdog, you know God is going to do a work.
Psalm 146:9 The Lord watches over the strangers; He relieves the fatherless and widow; But the way of the wicked He turns upside down.
I believe that if God’s heart is for the hurting, then that should be our heart as well; that we should be the friend of the friendless and a comfort to those who are hurting. Claim every opportunity you are presented with to love the last and the least and you will reflect the heart of God.
