Matthew 25:14-15 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey.
A talent was a unit of money equivalent to around $1200 modern dollars, so one servant received $6,000.00, the second received $2,400.00 and the third received $1,200.00. Perhaps we think to ourselves, it doesn’t seem fair that the master gave so much to the others but only gave the one servant a single talent. But we make an assumption when we do that. We assume that the master doesn’t know what each of the servants is able to handle. It says here that they were given talents according to their own ability. God knows you intimately. He knows what you can handle and what you cannot.
John 10:27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
One of my favorite messages to share is about Psalm 23 and how it tells us that God will supply all our needs … we should not be in want. The Psalm also tells us that He leads us as our Shepherd. He may lead us into safe places and He may lead us into dangerous places. Either way, He is still our Shepherd, He is still with us, and He still provides.
God may have given you 5 talents or maybe He gave you just one talent, but if you use that one talent to be productive kingdom builders, God will multiply that talent. Some people with many talents refuse to use them, choosing instead to hide them away. Others have but one talent and they use that talent with all their heart to glorify God. Whatever God has given you, use it to the best of your ability to glorify God and He will reward you richly.
