Introduction
1 Peter 4:12–13 ESV
Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.
2 Peter 2:1 NKJV
But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.
Doctrine: a set of ideas or beliefs that are taught or believed to be true
False doctrine: any idea that adds to, takes away from, contradicts, or nullifies the doctrine given in God’s Word

And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.

Fables here is the word μῦθος mythos meaning myths – manufactured stories that have no basis in fact.
