Numbers 10:13 So they started out for the first time according to the command of the Lord by the hand of Moses.
This was a very orderly movement, starting with being freed from the bondage of Egypt, to receiving the law at Mount Sinai to the giving of the instructions for the camp and the giving of instructions for taking up camp and following God. And it’s another reminder to us that God is a God of order. We see this from the beginning of the Bible at Creation to the last chapter of the Bible and because God does not change, what He does will always be orderly. If something you are doing necessitates or causes disorder, then I’m confident you can say that it is not of God.
I’m not saying that your family is out of order because there are dirty dishes in the sink and the kids clothes are strewn down the stairs … or hanging out the windows. I’m saying that if your life is a complete wreck and you are trying to say that is because you are following the Lord, then you’re just creating an excuse. If we will allow God to work in our lives, and we are willing to heed His direction, God will always bring order where there is disorder. He will clean the heart where there is a clutter of sin and wickedness, and He will sift through the closets of our minds and shake out the chaff.
Sometimes we are guilty of locking one closet in our minds shut and saying, “Jesus, You are welcome in all my life, except for this one closet that I’m keeping for myself.” And then we stumble or give in to some temptation and say, “Jesus – where were You when I was being tempted?” And He says, “I was here … you were locked away in your closet.” If we don’t allow Jesus to clean out that closet, we will begin to visit that closet more and more often until finally, we are prisoners in the closet. That’s what happens when we don’t allow Jesus into some part of our lives; we have all of this wide expanse and freedom we could be living in, but we keep going back to the closet until we’ve traded the liberty we have in Christ for chains of sin. If you’ve got a place like that in your mind, someplace in your life that you have not allowed Jesus into. Give Him the key and let Him clean it out before you become your own closet monster.
